  2. Background • LIPs across Ontario – Purpose • Joint initiative – Citizenship and Immigration Canada, Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration and refined in consultation with the Association of Municipalities, Ontario and the City of Toronto • Funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada

  3. Purpose of the LMLIP • Strengthen the role of local and regional communities in serving and integrating immigrants through a Local Immigration Partnership. • Provide a collaborative framework for, and facilitate the development and implementation of, sustainable local and regional solutions for successful integration of immigrants to London and Middlesex. • Enable our community to put immigration on their overall planning agenda and benefit from the successful social and economic integration of new immigrants.

Progress to Date • Established the London & Middlesex Local Immigration Partnership Council • Developed the Community Immigrant Strategic Plan • Developed a Community Capacity & Needs Inventory • All done through a consultative process that included 3 community consultations and over 50 Sub-Council & Council meetings

  11. Overarching Themes of Strategic Plan • Supports and Services for Immigrants • Communication and Access to Information • Host Community • Supports for Service Providers • Advocacy/Systemic Change

  12. Supports and Services for Immigrants • Immigrants have increased access to supports and services to ensure that they can successfully participate in all aspects of the community.

  13. Communication and Access to Information • Immigrants have increased access to information about available services, cultural expectations and on how to successfully use the system in the community.

  14. Host Community • London and Middlesex residents, are exposed, educated and engaged in understanding and accepting diverse traditions, behaviours and experiences of all the cultures that make up the community.

  15. Supports for Service Providers • Service providers and volunteers have increased access to sustainable funding, information on supports to collaboration, diversity training and resources to ensure timely, effective and responsive services for immigrants.

  16. Advocacy/Systemic Change • Reduction of systemic barriers (i.e. local, provincial, federal and host community) that impede immigrants’ ability to successfully engage in the community.

  17. Implementation Phase Role of LMLIP Council • Central Council will continue to provide strategic oversight of the Strategic Plan • Sub-councils will lead implementation of the identified strategies in the Strategic Plan

  18. Implementation Phase • Each Sub-council continues to meet and plan Year One to Year 3 work plans • Each Sub-council continues to identify some strategies and establish working groups to work on these strategies • Central Council continues to meet, review work plans, advise and direct

  19. Key highlights from the Plan • The development of the Strategic Multimedia Communication Plan • System bridging (i.e., Education and Employment ) • Communication within sectors (i.e., Settlement, ESL and LINC) • Development of resources
