Foundation – VET Priorities • Supporting the further development of excellent vocational teaching and learning at the heart of a strong VET system. • Contributing to the creation of a strong VET system with employers at the heart.

Excellent vocational teaching and learning: 4 characteristics a clear line of sight to work on all vocational programmes; ‘dual professional’ teachers and trainers who combine occupational and pedagogical expertise; access to industry-standard facilities and equipment, reflecting the ways in which technology is transforming work; clear escalators to higher level vocational learning, developing and combining deep knowledge and skills.

TSSP – your priorities • Improving the quality of teaching with a focus on English and maths, employability and basic occupational skills; • Supporting staff to engage with employers with a focus on securing and managing work placements, working with small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and developing placements in new sectors; • Supporting the development of robust initial assessment processes to ensure appropriate learner enrolment; • Improving the quality of provision for learners from vulnerable and excluded groups and communities and those who have protected characteristics.

Maths Pipeline • Over 2,200 practitioners completed the Maths Enhancement Programme (MEP) • Currently commissioning: • Research with learners (with Grade D or below) • Tailored CPD to support current teachers of GCSE Maths, vocational teachers, MEP graduates and Functional Skills teachers • Development of a strategic approach for providers to improve maths – pilot with 5 providers in different settings • A strategic guide for providers to raise standards of maths teaching informed by examples of effective practice
