Invite general questions throughout presentation, but be mindful that you only have 20 minutes for your part. Ask that specific questions be directed to the student’s counselor. If there are too many questions and you are running out of time, ask that questions be held until the end to allow time to get through entire presentation. Second Arrow – the link: “Forms” under “quick links” provides on-line access to all required forms.
Third Arrow – the link: “Calculate Costs” is a tool that allows you to estimate your out of pocket costs by providing an estimate of your charges and allows you to deduct the financial aid you expect to receive.
Fourth Arrow – the link: “Contact Us” is a listing of all staff in the office and provides their direct phone line and email address. Students are assigned to a counselor by their last name. General inquiries and submission of documents can be done during our regular office hours. For specific inquiries about your financial aid file, please contact your financial aid counselor to set an appointment.
Please note that the office is closed to the public for processing on Tuesdays during the summer months.

4. Application Process Must submit a FAFSA for each academic year

If you haven’t submitted a FAFSA for the current academic year, it’s not too late! File Today!
February 14th is our priority filing date.

6. Types of Aid Offered at UMBC Grants/Scholarships - Do not have to be repaid
Federal – need-based
Pell and SEOG* Grants
TEACH Grant (may need to be repaid) http://studentaid.ed.gov
State – need and merit-based
Awarded by MD Higher Education Commission (MHEC), not UMBC
In-state residents only (student and parents)
Must file FAFSA by March 1st each year to be eligible for most awards
Some MHEC scholarships require additional applications
