FACTS George was the 1st President of the U.S. He was known as the father of his country He stepped down after serving 8 years as president Washington was initiated as a Freemason in Fredericksburg, VA In 1757, George married Martha
ARMY • George was named Commander in Chief of the Continental Army • On Christmas Day, 1776, Washington led a surprise attack on Trenton, New Jersey • Another victory, Jan 3rd followed at Princeton • Washington was an effective (good) leader • George stopped the British attempts to quell (end) the Revolution by joining American and French forces in Yorktown, Virginia • Washington resigned (quit) as Commander in Chief; then presided (in charge of) over the American Constitutional Congress in 1787
