Greetings are words or phrases that you use. Or things that you do when you meet someone and are a very important part of being a tourist guide. People develop their opinions about new people by the feelings they have when they meet the person for the first time. Your job, as a tourist guide, is to make people feel comfortable and safe.
For many tourists,Thailand is very different from their home and they may feel scared or uncomfortable. Giving the tourists a warm and friendly greeting will help them feel welcome and relaxed
Some common ways to greet a tourist for the first time are : • Hello • Good morning • Welcome • Good day • Good afternoon • Good evening
Asking simple questions after a greeting can give a tourist the feeling that you care about them and how they feel. These simple questions can also give you information that may help you serve the tourist properly.
Please fill in the blanks for simple questions you may ask. • .....................are............... today ? • How ..........you doing...............morning ? • ...................../ May I .................you ? • .................can I do....................you today?
Simple introductions introductions are not always necessary when working with tourists. Lf you will work with them for a short time , giving your name may not be appropriate. However , if you are going to be their tourist guide , you will need to introduce yourself , you should tell the tourists what your job is. They need to know why they should remember your name.
Some easy ways to introduce yourself are: • My name is .................I will be your tourist guide today. • You can call me .................. I am your guide for the day. • I’m ..............I will be your guide at The Grand Palace.
As a tourist guide you are also a teacher. It may be a good idea to explain that Thai people have two names; a traditional name and a nickname.
For example, you may want say: • My name is Chaloem, but you can call me Ball is my nickname. Most Thai people have a nickname. • I am Chaloem, but everyone likes to call me “Ball”.
