  1. This week is a wonderful week, we did a lot of activities about the sculpture. We went to The Artist within and made some awesome art works, and visited an organic food shop in downtown Muncie. Also we made a big “junk sculpture” for our classroom and set it in the middle of the front class room. We got a sunny day on Wednesday, so we went outside and made a colorful ice sculpture. The most exciting thing for this week was the Chinese dish “Tomatoes fried Eggs” we made together! Moreover, we got a small “ice cream” shop at the science room to make some creative ice cream sculptures. Instead of the small group activity, we had a big group activity this week. We used different materials to build a awesome “junk sculpture”. The “junk sculpture” activity could give children an idea that many things besides stone from our lives can build a sculpture. FA.1.79 Use objects as symbols for other things e.g., a scarf to represent bird wings or a box to represent a car FA.1.69 Use a variety of materials e.g., crayons, clay, markers, paint) to create original work. SculptureWeek 4 June 3-6,2013 We had a great time on the cooking activity. We broke eggs together and tried a Chinese dish “Tomatoes Fried Eggs”. This cooking activity is a perfect chance for children to try some foods from other country and let them know that every culture contains some different cooking technics. P4.1 Reaches for, grasps and releases objects. In this week’s discovery table, we had the ice cream powder and different baking tools. The goal for this activity is to let children use their imagination to create different styles of the ice cream sculpture! SC.1.45 Explore objects by touching, shaking, banging and mouthing Our junk sculpture! During the circle time, we read a book “L means Liberty” by Wendy CheyetteLewison. The book had a great detail about the history and the structure of the liberty. This was a great opportunity for children to get some knowledge about the American famous sculptures. SC.1.51 Observe and describe properties of objects We had a ice sculpture art activity in a sunny day. Children used different water color to decorate the ice. From this activity, they can identify hot and cold in the environment, and got experiences about using ice in different ways. FA.1.67 Use different colors, surface textures, and shapes to create form and meaning. FA.1.24 Express feelings about art work There was a small box house in the back room for children to do dramatic play. They shared all kinds of foods in the box house and pretended that is their home. The small box house could not only provide a chance for children to interact with others, but also give children a private place to settle down. SE.1.5 Pretend to do something or be some one. SE.1.33 Seek interaction and enjoy social play e.g., patty cake. Chen He Ball State University FCFC 465 Practicum Preschool Summer 1, 2013
