What do you know about a sentence? • A sentence is a group of words that tell a whole idea. • A sentence starts with a capital letter. • A sentence ends with punctuation (like a period or question mark). • A sentence has a naming part and an action part. • A sentence has the all the words in the right order so that it makes sense.

  3. One kind of sentence asks a Question It is called an interrogative sentence. An interrogative sentence begins with a capital letter and ends with a question mark. A question mark looks like this. ?

  4. Did Pam see the eggs? Capital Letter Question Mark This is called an interrogative sentence because the sentence asks a question. It asks if Pam saw the eggs.

  5. Can you swim? Capital Letter Question Mark • This is called an interrogative sentence because the sentence asks a question. It asks if you can swim.

  6. Have you been to a park? Capital Letter Question Mark • This is called an interrogative sentence because the sentence asks a question. It asks if you have been to a park.

  7. What do zebras eat? Capital Letter Question Mark • This is called an interrogative sentence because the sentence asks a question. It asks what zebras eat.

  15. When you write a sentence always check for these things: • Did you use a capital letter at the beginning of the sentence and at the beginning of all names? • Are you telling something? If so, did you use a period or exclamation mark at the end. • Did you ask something? If so, did you use a question mark at the end?

  16. Practice for the test! Underline each question. Add the question mark (?) • I’m going to the ballgame • Are you going to the ballgame • Do you have a cat • I have two cats • Have you seen my red ball • I found a red ball
