OURS – Onboard Underway Registration of Samples • Leave ship with digital sample and measurements information and related ODAS data • Leave ship with Cruise Summary Report done • Save paper and time ! General information: • Open programme via shortcut on desktop (PC’s in lab, computerroom, laptop bridge) • Please contact us for any problem or suggestion at bmdc@mumm.ac.be or 02/773.21.11 • Don’t bother for messages ‘UFO sighted’. Click ‘OK’ and continue. The errors are stored and checked by us.
1. Assign participants and gear to the campaign – Menu ‘Campaign Setup’ • Select current campaign. If the current campaign is not yet in the list, see next page, step 2. • Select campaign participants, at least the person responsable for sampling. If the name is not in the list, click ‘Add new person’. • Select the sampling gear you’ll use. If your gear is not in the list, click ‘Add new gear’. • A gear can consist of a set sample recipients and sensors – give a name for your configuration and give details about the different parts. • Example: • Entries are automatically saved. • Press F2 for help on a given field.
2. Insert the current campaign if not yet defined – Menu ‘Administration’ This step is normally done by MUMM-Ostend when ODAS is started. Insert a new campaign by clicking below and enter the campaign number: year followed by campaign number e.g. ‘200828’ and press enter. If the campaign is split in parts e.g. ‘a’ and ‘b’, a decimal is added (1 for ‘a’, 2 for ‘b’, … ) to link to the correct ODAS table. E.g. ‘200828.2’. The corresponding ODAS table name is proposed in the second column, and if this table is found, the connection is put to ‘Link’. Dates are automatically filled with end date progressing during the course of the cruise. If no ‘Link’ is present for the current campaign, contact MUMM-Ostend or MUMM-BMDC (02 773 21 11). Entries are automatically saved. Press F2 for help on a given field.
3. Define your samples serie and select ODAS parameters – Menu ‘Campaign Setup’ Select the current campaign. Select the person responsable for sampling. Select the main gear you’ll use. This gear will be the default gear when recording samples for the current serie, but can be updated if necessary. Insert a meaningful name for the serie of samples you’ll take e.g. ‘monit water’ and press <enter>. More than one serie can be defined by one person for different purposes or sampling strategies (e.g. tidal cycle MOMO and QUEST4D bottom samples). A default set of ODAS parameters is proposed for export. Click on the parameters in the left box, to select or deselect them. Entries are automatically saved. Press F2 for help on a given field.
4. Register new sampling events – Menu ‘Sampling’ Select the serie for which sampling events will be defined. With a green background, new events can be added. By clicking <enter> or clicking on the clock, the start time is saved. By clicking <PgDown> or you go to the next new record. Only for tracks or long time measurements the end time should be recorded. Update the sampling gear if necessary. Enter any additional information: station name, custom parameters (like sampling depth, estimated wave heigth, filtered volume,…), comment (e.g. ‘to delete’ in case of a wrong entry). Long comments can be added by clicking . Entries are automatically saved. Press F2 for help on a given field.
5. Update sampling events and export your data at the end of the cruise – Menu ‘Sampling’ With a gray background previously defined sampling events can be updated. Click on the right list box or on the buttons to navigate to the event. Only the from time is not updatable, if wrong enter ‘to delete’ in comment and enter a new sample (the from time is updatable as long as the background is green). At the end of the cruise, your sampling event information together with the ODAS data at sampling times are exported to an Excell-file by clicking . In case you forgot a USB stick or in case the connection with the ODAS table was lost (but you continued recording sampling events), you can ask your sampling event data with ODAS parameters after the end of the cruise (bmdc@mumm.ac.be). Entries are automatically saved. Press F2 for help on a given field.
6. Assign ROSCOP data types to your samples serie - Menu ‘Cruise Summary Report’ Data types can be assigned to a samples serie in the course of the cruise. In the next step (7) they are assigned to the current campaign (or later on to future campaigns with the same type of measurements). Select the person responsable for sampling and the samples serie Select the ROSCOP data types for those measurements and eventually update the default unit. Eventually add a description for the measurement. Press F2 for help on a given field.
7. Finalize Cruise Summary Report (ROSCOP) Information - Menu ‘Cruise Summary Report’ At the end of the campaign the ROSCOP data types are assigned to the current campaign. Select the campaign and the samples serie (to which previously data types were assigned). If data types are assigned in the previous step, you can click the button to upload them. The number of samples, cores, hours, … is automatically calculated based on the registrated samples and their sampling gear. If necessary, you can add or remove ROSCOP data types and update the fields ‘number’, ‘unit’, ‘description’ and ‘principal investigator’ for this particular cruise. If these fields are entered for all samples series of the cruise, we have all the necessary CSR information. Press F2 for help on a given field.
