Registration Process • Select your classes using the ME Program of Study • Come in for advisement (not required but recommended) • Verify you have all necessary pre-reqs for your classes • Check for registration holds • Be familiar with registration dates • Look-up your time ticket when it is available • Create a few potential schedules when classes are available • View class restrictions to avoid registration problems • Register for classes when you time ticket starts • Deal with any registration errors • Request any overrides if necessary • Register for any classes if overrides are approved

The Advisement Process • Advisement in Mechanical Engineering • Advisement is not required in ME. • All student are strongly encouraged to come at least once a year. • Be prepared for an advisement session. Always bring: • A list of completed classes and a plan of what classes are taking next. • A list of specific questions which you need answered. • Advisement materials are available on the web. The Advisement Process • Midterm Advisement • Available to all students • Required for • New students with >2 midterm U’s • Students on probation or warning standing • Students on good standing with >3 midterm U’s • Holds are placed on students who do not come for required advisement • Strongly recommended for students dropping a class • Advisement Communication • E-Mail is the primary method of communication • E-mails have information about: • Registration, Midterm Info, Advisors, Curriculum Updates • Department and campus happenings • Jobs

Time Tickets Literally a time stamp generated by registrar’s office The earliest time that you can register Generally prioritized based on your earned hours (Ex. Understanding OSCAR C = Class is closed. SR = Cannot register because of restrictions or time ticket is not current. NR = Not available for registration. Restrictions Restrictions may prevent you from registering for a class. Notes about Classes Restrictions Pre-Requisites
CAMPUS RESTRICTION: This course is being taught somewhere other than on the Main Campus in Atlanta (Studies Abroad, Video, etc). CLASS RESTRICTION: The enrollment in this course is restricted by class (Freshman, Sophomore, etc.). You can ask for a class restriction permit. CLOSED SECTION: Class is full. You need to ask for an overload. CORQ_COURSE_XXXX REQ: Co-requisites courses must be taken at the same time. You need to register for both courses on the same Commit command. LINK ERROR XX REQUIRED: Certain lectures and labs are "linked" together. You must register for both the lecture and lab in the same commit. Most departments list the lecture section as a single letter and the lab as the same letter followed by a number (Example: the lecture is section "A" and the corresponding lab sections are "A1", "A2", etc). MAJOR RESTRICTION: Only students in certain majors are allowed to register for this course. PERMIT REQUIRED: The enrollment in the course is restricted. You need to ask for a Restricted Class Permit. PREQ & TEST SCORE-ERROR: You do not have the pre-requisites for the course. You may ask the department offering the class to see if an Pre-Req Permit is allowed. TIME CONFLICT WITH XX: You are trying to take 2 courses that meet at the same time. Common Registration Errors

What are Overrides? Overrides are the way to take a class if you do meet the requirements. Ex: If you took AE dynamics, you will need a pre-req override to register for any class that requires ME dynamics as a pre-req. Only the department offering the class can approve overrides. Restricted Class Permit Override Permits are required for the following errors: Major Restriction Class Restriction If a class is set up as permit only, then you need a permit. Overload Override If the class is full (Closed Section) Pre-Req Override If you do not have the correct pre-requisites or co-requisites Preq & Test Score Error Corq_Course Req Overloads, Permits and Pre-req Overrides
Request an Override Log on to Buzzport, www.buzzport.gatech.edu Select Secured Access (OSCAR) Select Student Services & Financial Aid. Select Registration. Select Registration Override Request. Follow the instructions to submit a permit, pre-req override or an overload request. If the class does not show up on OSCAR, go to: www.registrar.gatech.edu/registration/oprequest.php Make sure you understand what type of Override you need! If you are given a permit, overload or pre-req override, you must still register for the class. You must use the Add/Drop option in OSCAR to register for the class. Log on to Buzzport, www.buzzport.gatech.edu Select Secured Access (OSCAR) Select Student Services & Financial Aid. Select Registration. Select Add or Drop Classes. Select the Term and press Submit. Type in the CRN number of the class and add it to your schedule. An override does not register you for the class. The class must be added to your schedule during an active registration time. Modern Language Registration Information Website: http://www.modlangs.gatech.edu/student-resources/ Registration Details FREN and SPAN courses will be opened during phase 2, usually the first day of classes. Students in the International Plan or pursuing minors are eligible to request a permit during this time period. Students do not receive credit for 1001 course, until 1002 course is taken. After taking 1002 course, students receive credit for 1001 and 1002 courses. Placement Tests Online placement tests are available to and required of students continuing study of CHIN, FREN, GRMN, JAPN, SPAN, and RUSS from high school to determine their correct entry-level course. ME Curriculum Guide or Program of Study The ME program of study is available as a PDF or an Excel file. The PDF is a static file. The Excel file is an interactive file which allows users to check each class as it is completed, plan future semesters, and save the file. All Excel files must be saved onto your hard drive and run from there. The Excel files contain Macros and will not run through your web browser. Students must run a one time process to enable the macros in the file. Changing Majors Students have one ‘free’ major change before 60 credit hours. After 60 credit hours or the ‘free’ major change, schools can impose GPA restrictions. Many schools will not process change of major forms during registration; do not wait until the last minute!
