Introduction and Remarks from the previous edition 2nd Workshop on Power Converters for Particle Accelerators(POCPA)
POCPA Workshop: why? RF, Controls, Beam diagnostics,... Experts in other Particle Accelerators' Disciplines meet regularly since long ago: why power converters' ones should not?
POCPA Workshop: where? IPAC, PAC, EPE, PCIM, IEEE conferences (PESC...) Achievements or positive results are presented EP2 Forum CERN Schools (CAS) Either not specialized or quite expansive Almost ONLY positive results or achievements Only two editions ('95 & '98) Two CAS courses only ('89 & '04) NOT a complain! ICALEPCS DIPAC BIW In addition: • Limited number of specialists in the specific field (sometimes) • Companies involved, no real “free speech” • Too long time interval • Costs
1st POCPA Workshop: some remarks 28 Participants at 1st POCPA in Trieste (19-21 May, 2008) Main Topic: Reliability and Adopted solutions 8 presentations on the Main Topic; 8 on the status of some Facilities Few comments from the Round Table & Conclusions: “Much better than Conferences, we are all here” “Good idea, familiar atmosphere, speak openly, getting many information in an informal way” “Perfect as it is: the best thing is to talk about problems; keep it informal” “Keep it limited to Particle Accelerators” and no Companies Two days every two years is good Send a message from the Community to let companies that they are “monitored” and they do not face single customers
2nd POCPA Workshop: because... • … two years have elapsed • … the chosen “formula” was highly appreciated • … open discussion on “real world” events is helpful • … suggestions and best practice advises are shared • … a community of specialists and a network of experts was started • … Positive remarks from all participants were expressed And here we are! Many thanks to CERN for hosting the 2nd Workshop and many thanks to Jean-Paul and Marie for the great job of organizing the event! MERCI BEAUCOUP!
