Blog 3: Globalrefininggroup.com Benefits Of Catalytic Converter Recycling Catalytic converter is a device which control emission and convert the engine’s exhaust gases into a less toxic form. This reaction varies with different catalyst material. Catalytic converter works on the principle of catalyzing a redox reaction and is commonly used in automobiles, trucks, buses, motorcycle, and industrial applications. Catalytic converter do not work properly when the unwanted layer of chemicals like lead, sulfur, manganese and silicon gets deposited and coated the working surface of the device. This causes the working surface to be unable contact and react with the exhaust gases. This process is also termed as Catalyst Poisoning. These catalytic converters should be recycled when they are not running properly and have no further usage. The benefits of catalytic converter recycling are- 1.Catalytic converters are mainly recycled for its precious metal content, this helps in boosting the environment. Platinum, palladium and rhodium are the precious metals present in the catalytic converter. These metals are exists in trace amount in environment. Recycling these metals can help in preventing excessive mining of these metals from the earth. 2.One can earn a good amount of money by recycling a catalytic converter, which may not be working properly. Most scrap yards pay money for recyclable metals. Catalytic converters contain precious metal, which can be extracted and recycled against a handsome amount of money. 3.Apart from Platinum, catalytic converter contains useful and recyclable metals; such as Nickel, Copper, Iron, Cerium, Rhodium, Palladium and Manganese. These all metals are recyclable and reusable and also have valuable commodities in today’s scrap market.
