  2. What is an LDA? • See Education Act 2008 section S139a • http://www.education.gov.uk/aboutdfe/statutory/g00203393/lda • An LDA is a document that helps Colleges and post 16 Training Providers deliver appropriate support for Students who had a Statement of Educational Needs.

  3. Who has an LDA? • When a Young Person leaves school their SEN ceases however their support needs do not so an LDA is written.

  4. What is in an LDA? • The LDA gathers information from all professionals working with the Young Person including the Schools, Social Services, YOS, Health Care and many others and puts the relevant information in one place. • The LDA also includes the views and opinions of the Young Person and their Parents/Carers

  5. When is an LDA written? • An LDA is written over the last year of the Young Person’s school life.

  6. Term 5/6 in year prior to YP leaving: LDA Team • Make initial contact with school, YP, & Parent/Carer • Start to gather relevant information including intended destinations and September guarantees • Plan work load • Start 1st draft Young Person & Parent/Carers • Attend Careers Interview • Research options and work through ideas Schools • Deliver Career Education on Options • Arrange Careers Interviews • Liaise with LDA Officer

Term 1 LDA Team • Liaise with relevant organisations & professionals • Add to draft LDA • Meet with YP Young Person & Parent/Carers • Attend Annual Reviews/meeting • Visit Colleges • Make a decision - ongoing • Apply to College by end of January Schools • Arrange Annual reviews • Complete Schools Section (page 4)

Term 2 LDA team • LDAs to schools for comment • LDAs to Panel for Quality Assessment • After QA draft to Parents & YP for comment and gain permission to share Young Person & Parent/Carers • Add comments to LDA and sign permission page Schools • Support YP in their application to college • Inform LDA Officers where YP has changed their intended destination and will now need an LDA

Term 3 LDA Team • End of February LDAs to Colleges for assessment Young Person & Parent/Carers • Prepare for College interview Colleges • Read LDAs, assess, interview and complete application process with YP • Complete and return part 2, “Confirmation from Learning or Work Based Learning Provider” to KCC

  10. Term 4 LDA Team • Liaison with Colleges • Follow-up outstanding LDAs • Complete Part 3 of LDA and • Send completed LDA to YP Colleges • Complete all Part 2s of LDA and return to KCC by the end of March

NB Independent Specialist Provision • If a Young Person wishes to be considered for Independent Specialist Provision (ISP) the same process happens with YP applying to FE college. • The time line is tighter and we need the college feedback (Part 2) by the end of December. • The LDA Officer does not get involved in identifying an ISP.
