Literary analysis: epic hero The epic hero is defined or revealed by his deeds. As we read, look for qualities appropriate for an epic hero. Big question: What do Odysseus’ deeds reveal about his character?
Conflict (lines 1-5) What type of conflict is introduced in Odysseus’ initial statements at the banquet?

Literary analysis: epic hero • One characteristic of an epic hero is that they can do many things well. Odysseus makes his own raft as skillfully as a shipwright and successfully lashes together teams of sheep and slings his men under each team. These would be difficult to accomplish under the best of conditions!
