  2. Formal Assessment Criterion Referenced Tests (CRTs) NRTs determines the rank of a student, however, help to determine what skills the student has. CRTs are not comparative tests. CRTs are used to determine mastery of skills. CRTs can be used to determine how well the students are learning a given curriculum or certain material. Or CRTs can be used to also determine how well a given teacher is teaching the information.

  3. Formal Assessment Criterion Referenced Tests CRTs test takers are being measure on a specific, defined, objective criteria. Criterion referenced tests aim to determine the level of competency of a person.

  4. Formal Assessment Ipsative Assessment This type of assessment compares a single student within the same domain or comparatively the same student in different domains.

  5. NRT To aid in the ranking of the test takers in comparison to others who also took the assessment. To aid in discriminating the different levels of achievement (high/low). CRT To determine whether or not the student has achieved mastery of certain, specific skills. To help the instructor/educator know the amount of information student know, learned or gained through an academic experience. Comparison of NRTs and CRTsPurpose

  7. NRT A few questions to assess a particular skill. Variable difficult for questions within a skill set. Questions help determine higher and lower levels of achievement. CRT Each skill assess individually by several questions, to gain an acquisition of the mastery level of the student. The difficulty of these questions are paralleled.   8. NRT Each test taker is compared with other test takers Each test taker is assigned some type of achievement score. Scores report a broad level skills achievement. CRT Each test taker is compared with standards that are set prior to the examination. Each test taker receives a score. Scores are reported on individual skills.
