  3. Community Service About quality, not quantity. Get involved with in community service– on a weekly basis. Do service you think has substance to it; find something you’re passionate about MSO Examples: Mission Waco Hillcrest, Providence, V.A. Bluebonnet Hospice CAMCO Relay for Life

  4. Healthcare Activities Get involved with something in healthcare – on a weekly basis. Medical Schools don’t care whether you are an EMT, CNA, have CPR/FA certification… Huge distinguishing point in applicants is actual field experience: MSO Response Team Medical Mission Trips Other Examples: Physician Shadowing Physician Coffee Hour

  5. Research Activities Make use of your summers! Distinguishes a mediocre applicant from a great applicant! Does not just have to be research, but something substantial Opportunities are almost endless Baylor College of Medicine SMART Program MD Anderson Cancer Center Programs UT Southwestern Programs Baylor University Research Hillcrest Summer Programs Baylor Health Care System CMO Internship MSO will have an information session in October or November

  6. College Leadership Get involved with an organization; stick with it Shows commitment and dedication Distinguishes a mediocre applicant from a great applicant! MSO has many officers positions opening Huge opportunity to strengthen your application; seize it! Elections in November Start finding opportunities to “qualify” yourself as an applicant Service Committee, assistant to an officer, level of involvement with MSO, etc.
