What is the chartered standard? • A professional benchmark that demonstrates attainment of a defined level of technical knowledge, professional practice and ethical behaviour • Basis of assessment for applicants to obtain ChPP status and join Register of ChPPs • Designed to be rigorous & accessible to individuals with qualifications or significant relevant experience of projects, programmes and portfolios • Requires: Technical knowledge, application of that knowledge through professional practise, commitment to professional ethics, CPD and currency of practice. • Drawn from APM’s Competence Framework & consultation responses

  4. Developed with consultation Feedback from more than 120 organisations and individuals, used to inform the Chartered Standard, more than 70% of respondents indicated their support and recognition for the standard.

  12. How to become chartered

  13. Who is ChPP for? ChPP is for anyone that is meets the following criteria: A proven track record delivering projects, programmes, portfolios or a key control or enabling function and; Has up-to-date knowledge of current practices and methods Is actively involved in the project management profession. Note: applicants can be members or non-members of APM.

How to check if you are ready for chartered • You are professionally active with a proven track record of delivering projects, programmes, portfolios or a key control or enabling function. • These projects, programmes or portfolios exhibit characteristics of complexity. • You have the required breadth of project experience to meet the requirements of ten mandatory and two elective competences. • You have an advanced technical knowledge and are able to confidently evaluate and analyse theory of current practices and methods. • You are committed to continuing professional development and an ethical way of working.

  21. What is being assessed? Technical knowledge Advanced technical knowledge and understanding of how to deliver projects, programmes or portfolios, taking into account many interacting factors and different approaches that could be taken.

Professional practice Application of technical knowledge to deliver projects, programmes or portfolios that involved: Uncertainty or conflicting objectives High levels of unpredictability or risk Multiple work packages, projects or programmes Multiple interdependent stakeholders, possibly with competing interests.

  23. What is being assessed? CPD and Ethics Applications must commit to professional ethics and show continued professional development (CPD).

  25. Assessment cycles APM will process applications through an assessment cycle. The first four cycles are set out below: *Successful applicants notified via email from the chartered team and will be added to the public directory on the APM website if they have opted to do so.

  27. Recognised assessments An awarding body or other organisation may apply to APM to have its assessment recognised as either: meeting the technical knowledge requirements, or meeting the technical knowledge and professional practice requirements.

Recognised assessments An awarding body or organisation will need to demonstrate that the assessment is: At least at the required level for technical knowledge, or technical knowledge and professional practice. Is externally regulated by an approved body (such as Ofqual), or aligns to the quality requirements of ISO17024. Covers a minimum number of mandatory and elective competences.

  29. Recognised assessments The list will grow as providers apply to have their courses and qualifications assessed. APM is working actively with providers to grow this list. For example APM Registered Project Professional (RPP) is recognised and applicants will apply through route 2.

  31. Three things to remember • Consider if becoming chartered is for you now or perhaps later when you feel it is right. • Encourage your team to apply. • If relevant get your employer to support and publicly back the initiative.
