US SOCCER GRASSROOTS DEVELOPMENT PHILOSOPHY At the grassroots level, children learn and develop to their full potential through game-like experiences in an enjoyable environment that supports individual growth
Grow the number of licensed coaches Grow the number of licensed instructors Improve the quality of coaching at all levels
2 In-Person courses (one must be 11v11) + 1 online course
US Soccer Grassroots In Person and D Course Structure • Grassroots in Person License 4 hour (4 v 4, 7 v 7, 9 v 9 and 11 v 11) • 1 hour in classroom, 2 hours on the field, 1 hour in classroom • Candidate to instructor ratio 12:1 • Partner with Clubs to provide fields, players and classroom • D Course, two weekend course • Based on all four game models • Facilitate improvement in the 6 tasks of a coach • Learn how to design, execute and reflect on a training session • First weekend is Friday, Saturday and Sunday • Developmental period of six to eight weeks • Second weekend is Saturday and Sunday • Partner with Clubs to provide fields, players, and classroom
PREREQUISITES FOR COURSES • Candidates with no previous license will start with the introduction to Grassroots coaching. This is a free online course required prior to starting a Grassroots course on the pathway • Coaches can then take any GR module course, four online or four in person, either 4 v 4, 7 v 7, 9 v 9, or 11 vs 11 • Candidates with no previous license that want to obtain the US Soccer D license will be required to take 2 in-person Grassroots courses (one must be the 11 v 11 course) and one on-line Grassroots course • To take the D License course, candidates with a US Soccer F License must complete two in-person Grassroots Coaching Licenses • Candidates with a US Soccer E License can take the US Soccer D License. It is recommended that you take one four hour in-person Grassroots License to understand the play-practice-play methodology
PREREQUISITES FOR COURSES • There is no waiting period between any Grassroots courses including the D license • Candidates who receive their D license must wait 12 months before taking the US Soccer C license • Candidates who possess a D Certificate or State D License who want to take a US Soccer C course must retake the D license course
