  3. Clothing • Animal Skins • 1800’s cloth was used • Dresses and shirts (beaded or covered with elk teeth or shells) • Cotton • Women: simple aprons/skirts: made from grasses/ plants: both male and female wore animal hides

  4. Environment • Northern: mountains and forests • Southern: flatlands with salty soil, dry but cold • North: cool, moist climate • East: dry and hot • South: sunny and mild

  5. Adaptations • Schools • Houses

  6. Beliefs/Religions • Believed each part of nature had it’s own spirit • Expressed in various customs • Hunters gave thanks to animals they killed • Respect for nature

  7. Housing • Wickiup (simple frame of branches covered with brush)

  8. Food • Hunted duck • Gathered duck eggs and tender shoots of cattail plant • Snakes and grasshoppers as treats • Pine nuts and jack rabbits
