Chapter 21 Male Reproduction
Male Private Parts • Scrotum the sac of skin that surrounds the testicles • Penis includes the head and the shaft • Glans Penis The head of the penis • Testes singular is testis. Where Sperm is produced. Inside the scrotum • Epididymis tube that connects with the testes • Vas Deferens tube that leaves the epididymis • Urethra tube that goes out your penis
Prostate gland gland that is part of exocrine system. Secretes an alkaline solution. • Cowper’s Gland small gland also called bulbourethral gland. Exocrine gland that secretes a clear fluid before ejaculation. This clears the urethra of urine and it lubricates. • Seminal vesicles Secrete fluid during ejaculation. Alkaline and sugar is.
SPERM! This is what makes a Baby. So where does it come from? • Cells in the testes under Spermatogenesis This is the process in making sperm. • This process is done in the seminiferous tubules. • Between the seminiferous tubules are interstitial cells • These cells are between the coils of the seminiferous tubules • Makes the hormone Testosterone
SPERM • Acrosome very front of the sperm. Has enzymes to break down the outer layer of ovum • Head Underneath the acrosome. Contains the DNA and genetic information to make a baby. • Midpiece between the head and the tail. Has many mitochondria to make ATP for energy. • Tail also called flagellum. Used for moving.
Testosterone, the Man hormone • Testosterone • Allows the function and development of all the glands in the male reproductive system • does all the secondary sexual characteristic of puberty • Deep voice • Facial hair • Taller • More muscle • Pubic hair
What decides to make Testosterone? • The Hypothalamus communicates with the anterior pituitary gland • The hypothalamus secretes GnRH (gonadotropin-releasing hormone) • Anterior pituitary gland releases 2 hormones • FSH follicle stimulating hormone. This tells the testes to make sperm • LH luteinizing hormone. This tells the interstitial cells to make testosterone.
Maintaining Homeostasis • Testosterone is released into the body. • When there is testosterone in the body then the hypothalamus does not release GnRH • When there is little testosterone in the body then the hypothalamus senses this and releases GnRH
So what is the deal with Gay? Is that normal? • Many politicians and religious groups often say that homosexual behaviour is not “Natural” • What do you think? "People are created in God's image. Homosexuality is an identity adopted through societal factors. It's an identity disorder.“ Christine O’Donnell
What do religions say about Homosexuals? "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination." -Leviticus 18:22 "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltness is upon them." -Leviticus 20:13
Homosexuality is not natural. Just look at the male and female bodies. They are obviously designed to couple. The natural design is apparent. It is not natural to couple male with male and female with female. It would be like trying to fit two screws together or two nuts together and then say, "See, its natural for them to go together.“ -Taken from the Christian Apologetics and Research Ministry (http://carm.org)
Tell these animals they are not natural • Spotted Whiptail Lizard • CommonAmeiva • Common Garter Snake • Silkworm Moth • Jumping Spider • Blister Beetle • Australian Parasitic Wasp • Artic Grayling • Bearded Dragon • Broad-headed Skink • Checkered whiptail Lizard • Chihuahuan • There are many many more!! • African Elephant • Brown Bear • Brown Rat • Buffalo • Caribou • Domestic Cat • Common Dolphin • Common Marmoset • Common Raccoon • European Bison • Humans • Domestic Chicken • Common Gull • Emu • King Penguin
Homosexuality is in the Genes • Chromosome linkage studies of sexual orientation have shown the presence of multiple contributing genetic factors in an individuals sexual orientation. • Homosexuality is hereditary on the maternal side. • Homosexuality has been found on the X chromosome in the distal region of “Xq28” • Research done by • Hamer et. al. 1993 • Hu et. al. 1995 • Sanders et. al. 1998
Homosexuality is not un-natural • It is found in nature in hundreds of species • Homosexuality is not a brain disorder • It is genetic, and it is an adaptation that has risen over time through evolution this is a type of Kin selection • Religion vs. Homosexuality • Modern Science was developed hundreds of years after modern religion. Now we know why homosexuality is normal.
