Games For Training • Starting in 2010 the US Military has been approved for a “Games for Training” program. • $50 million dollar budget. • Army already uses “DARWARS Ambush” game to train soldiers. • Game has been used since 2006 to train Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, and Homeland Security.
DARWARS Ambush • Modified by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. • Used specifically to train soldiers how to react to ambushes and roadside bombs.
The Military • Though a very effective teaching device, according to the military some of the technology is limited and needs to be updated.
The Next Military Game • There is a new game in the works, and according to the military the game must meet the following requirements. • Must provide low-cost training • Must not require large number of technicians to run it • Must have playback functions to review what went right and wrong. • Must be able to modify scenarios and difficulty.
Doom 1997-Department of Defense Simulated Training • In 1997 the marines modified the game Doom as a training device. • Marines learned teamwork and decision making skills. • Total cost to the military was $49.95 to purchase and modify the game for their purposes.
Stone City- Ice cream shop • Cold stone creamery developed their own independent game simulator in order to use for training purposes. • Game focuses on controlling portion sizes, and how that relates to profitability • Was distributed via corporate internet • Has a scoring system tied to corporate Learning Management System
May 2003 Cisco Systems • In 2003 Cisco developed a series of games designed to educate customers and engineers. • Games are designed for simulation learning as well as recreation. • There are games with varying levels expert, professional, and associate level.
Americas Army 2002 • Game developed by the US Army as a training and recruiting tool. • Young adults could learn about the Army without having to join. • Game provided education by providing a virtual soldier experience.
Study on Video Game Training • University of Colorado Business School in 2010 showed that people taught using games simulations were: • 11 % better at initially learning the information • 14% better at displaying overall job skills • 9% better at retaining the information
Surgeons • The surgeons who had a history of playing video games for more than three hours a week made 37 percent fewer mistakes and completed tasks 27 percent faster than the surgeons who had no history of playing video games. • The surgeons who were still playing video games (for any amount of time per week) at the time of the study made 32 percent fewer mistakes and completed tasks 24 percent faster than their never-playing colleagues.
Surgeons • The surgeons who scored in the top third of the video-game portion of the study made 47 percent fewer errors and completed tasks 39 percent faster than those who scored in the bottom third.

A World of Simulations Simulations thru video games has proven itself in modern day technology. It has shown its importance all the way to the military. The uses are endless, anyone can develop it for their personal needs. Soon, everyone will be using it.
