Is Your Morning Coffee About to Become More Affordable? Those who love their morning coffee before work could be spending a small fortune on their favourite brew. With the average cup of coffee costing £2.45, this could mount up to more than £600 annually for those who buy a cup Monday to Friday. However, big coffee chains are about to get a shock with easyCoffee about to roll out another 200 of their £1 coffee shops. The company, which was founded by EasyJet owner Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou in early 2016, currently has two shops – one in Essex and one in London. The budget coffee shop is now planning a massive expansion to compete with the likes of Costa and Starbucks. Franchise Agreements Over the next six months, there are set to be another twelve easyCoffee shops opening up around the country including in High Wycombe, Wembley, and Croydon. However, until franchise agreements have been signed off, the locations of the rest of the 200 shops will not be confirmed. It is expected the chain will begin appearing on high streets around the UK. Gap in the Market According to Nathan Lowry who has licenced the ‘easy’ brand from Sir Stelios, “The gap in the market is in pricing. The coffee is great. We use the same machines that all the big guys use; all our staff are highly trained up to barista level. We genuinely feel that people are paying too much for their coffee in the UK. Nick Patterson-Jones, branding director for easyCoffee, said that the £1 price for a cup of coffee would provide ‘value for money’ for customers.
