The burning question for educators is: Can these new insights be exploited by teachers? The presentation will survey what is known about the mathematical brain, and highlight some potent insights for math teachers. The burning question for educators is: Can these new insights be exploited by teachers? • I believe they can. They can empower math teachers to anticipate common student difficulties and to invent strategies to overcome them, in a powerful and transformative way. • The presentation will survey what is known about the mathematical brain, and highlight some potent insights for math teachers. • Biography • Mr. Morison, a 20+ year veteran teacher of mathematics and science, spent a year at the Center for Cognitive and Educational Neuroscience of Dartmouth College, working with a team of scientists, mathematicians and educators in an effort to build bridges between scientific research and educational practice. He will present what has emerged from that work as well as how he has applied it in the classroom and shared it with other teachers.
