Meaning and Orgin • Neptune, known as Poseidon in greek mythology, is the god of the sea • He is also known as the god of horses and racing • Neptune probably comes from the prefix “neph” which means wet or damp clouds • Neptune is normally showed with his trident, how he makes earthquakes and commotion • The planet is called Neptune because of its blue color, the color of the sea
Length of Orbits • A year on Neptune is 82 earth years • There are only 2 seasons, Summer and Winter • Each Summer and Winter is 41 earth years • Neptune is 1.0 billion miles away from the Sun The difference of the planets from year to year
Moons • Neptune has over a dozen moons • Triton is Neptune’s biggest moon • Triton has a retrograin orbit • A retrograin orbit means the moon or space object orbits the planet or space object the opposite way it makes it’s revolution • Eventually, Neptune will pulverize Triton
The Great Dark Spot • The spot is a big storm that has been going on for about 300 years • One time scientists lost the spot and found it again • It could fit at least 1 earth inside it • It is similar to the great red spot on Jupiter
