PCMI 2010 SSTP: Reflecting on Teaching Day 5: Tools of technology
Put on your student hats! • Get a partner. You will use the TI together. • Read the handout . • Use the TI- Inspire to construct a visual display that supports your conclusion. • 15-20 minutes max
Put on your teacher hats! • Suppose that the screens you see now are the work of a classroom of students. • How will your construct a classroom discussion that: • promotes a "level 3" conversation about the mathematics? • Shows / resolves confusions/misconceptions? • 20 minutes, put on poster paper. 1 per table.
Things to think about • What important mathematics should emerge? • How will you deal with the different solutions? Justify. • How will you determine what students understand? • How will you prepare for student errors/misconceptions when they emerge?
“But I don’t have a TI Navigator!” • What other methods work (don’t work) for sharing results like we did with the TI Navigators? Why(not)?
