Outline • Overview • Controller • Temperature Sensor • Setup • Results • Conclusion • Future Work
Overview The scope of this project is to provide remote access automated monitoring for the ECE Power Lab. An IP enabled controller will be used to monitor a temperature sensor at a select location of the lab and provide notification via email and/or relay triggering when monitoring conditions are out of the desired range.
Controller • Barix BarioNet IP Enabled Programmable Controller • Built-in Web Server that is completely customizable • 2 Relay Outputs (5A @ 250VAC) • A Dallas 1-Wire interface that can support up to 50,1-Wire temperature sensors • Operating temperature:0 to 50°C / 32 to 104°F • Password protected
Controller SCHRACK PEO14005 PIC16F877A
Controller [3]
Temperature Sensor • Tamperproof SS Flat Plate 1-Wire Temperature Sensor • A DS18B20 digital sensor with 12-bit resolution • +/- 0.5°C accuracy over range of -10 to 85°C • Measures Temperatures from -55 to 125°C (-67 to 257°F) • A flat plate sized to fit a single gang box
Temperature Sensor 1 – GND 2 – DQ (Data I/O 1-Wire interface pin) 3 – VDD DS18B20 [6] 1 2 3 Note: The 1-Wire interface pin (DQ) provides power to the device when used in parasite power mode. VDD must be grounded for operation in parasite power mode. [5]
Setup [4] [5]
Results • Challenges • IP configuration • SMTP setup • Email delay (1min. 50sec.) • Interpreting settings
Results • Success • Confirmed proper operation of relay triggering when temperature is out of set range • Confirmed proper operation of email notification when temperature is out of set range
Conclusion The BarioNet 100 has provided remote access automated temperature monitoring for the ECE Power Lab via email and/or relay triggering when monitoring conditions are out of the desired range.
Future Work • Expand monitoring to include: • Two temperature sensors • One hydrogen sensor • One air quality sensor • Two vibration sensors
