  2. The last day of a year is called sylwester in Poland. It’s a male name and 31st of December is a Sylwester’s name day. Traditionally, we farewell old year participating in all kinds of parties: at home with a family, at the discos or at smart receptions. Many people decide to go to their town’s or city’s squares – there are concerts and firework presentations. Everyone dances and has lots of fun with their friends.

  3. At midnight, we have a toast with champagne and we wish all the best in New Year one another. You can hear “New Year!” everywhere and bangers’ noise. People look at the sky to admire beautiful fireworks. We often have fun until the morning.

  4. There are many superstitions connected with the old and new year. We have even a proverb: Jaki sylwester, taki cały rok – As New Year’s Eve is, the entire year is. Some people believe that it is important not to have any debts on New Year’s Eve. If you don’t want to have any money problems you should put a fish’s scale into your wallet. You don’t want to sweep happiness out of you house? Just don’t sweep on 31st of December!
