Trends of Wages and Benefits • With greater competition from foreign companies the demand for low-skilled workers has decreased • Earnings for non-college graduates has greatly decreased over 20 years • Benefits such as health insurance and pensions have increased costs for businesses which decrease profits • Contingent Employment • Move jobs overseas

  8. Temporary Employment • Easier to hire or layoff workers when business is up or down • Easier to discharge temporary workers • Paid less and fewer benefits • Some workers prefer this type of employment
