  1. Low-income students from ethnic minorities may be eligible for Gates Scholarships to finish their college degrees. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which was established in 1994, has contributed billions of dollars to scholarships for underprivileged and minority students. With an endowment of roughly $50 billion, which is greater than the GDP of several nations, Gates Foundation is the largest organization of its kind in the world. They unveiled a brand-new award in 2017 dubbed the Gates Scholarship. Outstanding minority high school graduates from low-income families are given the extremely competitive Gates Scholarship, which is limited to one recipient per household. The expected family contribution (EFC), as determined by the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Aid), or the methodology used by the scholar's college or university, is the amount of the total cost of attendance that is not already covered by other financial aid, such as Pell Grants. Teg scholars receive funding for this EFC.

  2. With the scholarship, exceptionally talented low-income kids will be able to attend college and concentrate on their studies rather than worrying about how to pay for it. The ideal applicant for a Gates Scholarship should have an exceptional high school academic record, proven leadership qualities, and exceptional personal achievement skills. Meritorious students who earn Gates Scholarships receive various privileges, including room and board, book prices, tuition, transportation costs, and personal expenses. There is no deadline for giving out Gates Scholarships, and the money pays for the entire cost of attendance. In addition to covering their tuition costs, recipients of Gates Scholarships will have access to a network of services and mentorship opportunities that will help them as they pursue their degrees. Obtaining a Gates Scholarship The applicant must be in good standing and have a minimum cumulative weighted GPA of 3.3 on a scale of 4.0 to be eligible for the Gates Scholarship. They should be qualified for a Pell Grant and have submitted their FAFSA. The applicant must be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States and belong to one of the following ethnic groups: African-American, American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian or Pacific Islander, or Hispanic. In addition, the candidate must have the intention of enrolling full-time in a four-year degree program at a recognized, not- for-profit, private or public college or university in the US with the goal of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in any area after completing the program. How to apply for a Gates Scholarship The most competitive Gates Scholarship candidate will also be in the top 10% of their graduating class, have a track record of leadership accomplishments, and have shown emotional maturity, determination, and tenacity. Additionally, it's critical to comprehend the schedule because you must start your Gates Scholarship application in the spring or summer before starting your senior year. The application period opens in July, and it closes in September. The Phase II application is given to the 2000 semi-finalists in December, and it is due in January. 600 finalists will be chosen from these and invited to either in-person or video interviews in March. In April, the 300 final Gates Scholarship winners are notified.
