Situation • Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam • Campus university, strong growth (2000: 13 000 – 2006: 19 000 students) • 12 faculties of different sizes (2 M€ - 45 M€) • Differentiated support services • Relative autonomy of faculties
Problems in administration • Differentiated services • Ineffective decision making and consultation structures • Not making best use of human potential • Symbol problem issues (website, real estate)
Study visit purpose • Learn from Helsinki experience • Develop agenda for VU administration strategy • Have fun
Helsinki experience • Very well prepared • Senior level reception and involvement both sides • Fun activities • Quality content; challenging but also comparable (i.e. within reach)
Post Helsinki • Clearer problem analysis • Commitment of all • Change of culture
