  2. 2007 Priorities • Member Relations • Incorporation • Revitalizing the Website • Pandemic Preparedness Planning • Government Relations • Issue Management • Collaborative Action

  3. #1 –Member Relations • 2007 saw a drop off in Memberships • Fewer renewals & no new members • Current Services include: • Website • Quarterly Conference Calls • Information Bulletins (as required) • 2008 is seeing renewed interest, new members & indications of further growth • Support from the members in recruiting new members is essential

  4. # 2 – Incorporation & #3 – Website • Incorporation • Accomplished in 2007 – requires minimal maintenance but brings new responsibilities to the Secretariat & the Directors • Website Revitalization • Completed in 2007 • New opportunities for communicating the Coalition’s messages • Should it be expanded to include Members’ Only Section

  5. #4 - Pandemic Preparedness Planning • Industry/Government Subcommittee • Solidly established • Clear role for the Coalition – need new Co-Chair • Management now primarily in AAFC’s hands • Global Grippe recommendations/Workplan • Build on momentum • Regional workshops – survey to take place • Agri-food sector strategy • Continued work on industry plans • Other activities?

  6. #5 – Government Relations • Current Situation • Excellent past access to Co-chairs of CFISIG, FPTAFIC, FPTFSPC • Expectation of access to new FPT Food Safety Committee • Major changes at CFIA, Health Canada & AAFC on the food safety files – need to establish new linkages & awareness • Our long-term objectives are still not priorities for Ministers or securely placed on the FPT agenda – but new opportunities will be available to present our case in 2008

  7. #6 - Issue Management • Growing Forward Initiative • Are the objectives set in 2006/7 still valid? Or are there new ones? • Food & Consumer Safety Action Plan • Will there be opportunities for joint action through the Coalition on this federal initiative? • National Food Safety Strategy • Its status is uncertain? • Other Canadian Initiatives - more to come! • Other Initiatives (e.g. US Government & Congress)

  8. #7 – Collaborative Action (1) • Post-Farm Recognition Task Group • Solid interest by industry groups • Direct linkage to FPT subcommittee • Funded opportunity to develop strong industry position

  9. #7 – Collaborative Action (2) • National Strategy • February 7th workshop • Opportunity to bring supply chain together, identify gaps & opportunities • Report could set Coalition’s agenda for coming years

  10. Looking Ahead: 2008 & Beyond • We would like your input on: • Overall Priorities? • What’s important within each? • New Suggestions?
