STEP Gold incidence rate • 2012 and beyond: equal to or below applicant’s BLS NAICS Code average • Only companies with fewer than 100 employees may use a 3-year average to qualify
Insurer Support Statement • Phased out in 2010 after EMR criteria implemented • Potential to falsify data to qualify for STEP Platinum/Diamond • Required for STEP Gold, Platinum & Diamond to verify safety/EMR data • Signed by applicant’s workers’ comp carrier
Substance abuse policy requirement • Written substance abuse policy required for all STEP Platinum & Diamond applicants • Coincides with Drug-Free Workplace initiative

2012 STEP Qualifying Criteria • Gold • Minimum 20 Key Components score • Incidence rate equal to or less than BLS NAICS code average • 2011 OSHA Form 300A (“Summary of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses”) • 2012 Insurer Support Statement Only applicants with fewer than 100 employees may use 3-year incidence rate average to qualify for STEP Gold (must submit 2009, 2010 & 2011OSHA Form 300As)
2012 STEP Qualifying Criteria • Platinum • $195 application processing fee • Minimum 20 Key Components score • Incidence rate 25% or below BLS NAICS code average • 2011 OSHA Form 300 (“Log of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses”) • 2011 OSHA Form 300A (“Summary of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses”) • 2012 Insurer Support Statement • EMR/mod factor at or below 0.800 for application year (0.900 for companies with 100 employees or less) • Loss Ratio 15% or lower for each of previous 3 years for companies with less than 50 employees • No fatality/catastrophic accident within application year and previous 3 consecutive years resulting in OSHA citation
2012 STEP Qualifying Criteria • Diamond • $395 application processing fee • Minimum 20 Key Components score • Incidence rate at least 50% below BLS NAICS code average in each of previous 3 years (companies under 100 employees may use 3-year average) • 2009, 2010 & 2011 OSHA Form 300A (“Summary of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses”) • 2009, 2010 & 2011 OSHA Form 300 (“log of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses”) • 2012 Insurer Support Statement • EMR/mod factor at or below 0.700 (0.800 for companies with fewer than 100 employees) • Loss Ratio 10% or lower in each of previous 3 years for companies with less than 50 employees • No fatality/catastrophic accident within application year and previous 3 consecutive years resulting in OSHA citation
FirstSTEP • Designed specifically for small contractors to help them develop basic safety programs • Checklist format for easy use • Application available to be completed online by members beginning Jan. 3rd • Application submitted to chapter or ABC National; applicants to receive STEP Participant certificate through chapters www.abc.org/firststep
Chapter Review Requirements • Chapters should review all STEP applications to ensure: • ALL information properly filled out • OSHA forms/Insurer Support Statement attached • Form signed by company representative • Form signed by chapter staff affirming review and accuracy of data submitted • Ensures that delays in application processing are minimized

Key 2012 STEP Dates • December 26th, 2011: STEP applications mailed out • January 3rd: STEP application available for download/complete online at www.abc.org/step • July 2nd: deadline for members to submit applications to chapters (inclusion in National Safety Excellence Award competition)
