Thoughtshots An Important Revision Technique
A thoughtshot is… • Ideas, thoughts, reflections of fictional characters or the author of a personal narrative (YOU) • The thoughts must stay focused and move the story along • Inner dialogue / Feelings • NOT words that are spoken to another character
A look at what the character is thinking or feeling Example: Brad wondered if Sarah ever really loved him. There was a knot in his stomach as he walked up to the door. Reflections, thoughts, feelings, dreams, opinions of the author Example: How can this be? I’ve done everything in my power to avoid this, I thought to myself. At that moment, I knew my life would never be the same. Fiction (Short Story) vs. Non-fiction (Personal Narrative)
