Bottleneck Flow1 c e j Flow2 Flow3 Introduction • QoS in MANET is an essential component that is needed to support multimedia and real-time applications. • Spatial reuse is a very important factor in wireless network.
Introduction • Directional antenna technology provides the capability for considerable increase in spatial reuse. • Multi-Beam Adaptive Array (MBAA) Antenna • Power Saving • Spatial reuse • Send simultaneously at multiple directions. B B A A MBAA Antenna C C D D
Motivation and Goal • Proposed a bandwidth reservation protocol for QoS routing in TDMA-based MANETusing directional antennas. • Goal: Reduce end-to-end delay. b Flow1 c e i j Flow2 n Flow3
Network Environment • All nodes are static. • Each node equips MBAA antenna and keeps track of the slot status information of its 1-hop and 2-hop neighbors. • Angular groups in MBAA antenna. • ={13,14} , ={14,15}
Rule for Slot Allocation • All beams can transmit or receive, but transmitting and receiving not allow simultaneously. B C A A B Not allowed C
Rule for Slot Allocation • The same angle of beam problem. • When z-->w • z--/->y • x--/->w • x--/->y x w y z x y z w
Proposed protocol for QoS routing • QREQ packet • QREP packet • QREP(S, D, id, b, PATH, NH) Destination Source The session id QREQ(S, D, id, b, x, PATH, NH) Number of slots required A list of next hop information, including hosts and slots The Host forwarding the message A list of demand route, including hosts and slots.
Example p • Node a to node b and p. • Route: a—b—h • Node d to node b. QREQ (a,h,1,1,b,{(a,S1),(b,S2)},(h,S2)) a b QREQ (a,h,1,1,a,{(a,S1)},(b,S1)) d QREQ (d,b,2,1,d,{(d,S1)},(b,S1)) h R S S R R S {14,15} {6,7} {2,3} {14,15} {8,9} {6,7} {1,16} {10,11}

Conclusion • This paper proposed a protocol for TDMA-based bandwidth reservation for QoS routing in MANET using directional antennas. • Reduce end-to-end delay.
