Monday November 11thJB #25 What is an interesting fact you found while researching your 6 cards? • Objectives: 1) handin completed evidence cards in correct form 2) present the aff positions to the calss 3) to evaluate and offer feedback on case ideas 4) to record the presentations 5) review a sample/mentor case 6) practice a protocol method of evaluation and observation of the case 7) identify the elements of writing an effective case form the mentor case • I can hand in my team’s completed evidence cards • I can complete the analogy practice on the next slide • Present your team’s ideas to the class – next slide • Evaluate the presentations – hand out • Protocol the sample aff case next slide on how to protocol • Hand in ideas for plans after presentation

Rubric for presentation 10 points for each area + 10 for presenting (50 pts)
Protocol Steps Round 1: Noticing Q. “What do you see?” A. “I notice… .” Describe the content of the work without making judgments of quality.
Protocol Steps Round 2: Stylistic features Q. “What writing/debate techniques do you see?” A. “I notice… .” Describe the “writerly/debate” aspects of the writing.
Protocol Steps Round 3: Questioning Q. “What questions does this case raise for you?” A. “I wonder… .” Questions about the case, the work, the purpose, etc.
Protocol Steps Round 4: Speculation Q. “What do you think this team is working on?” • “I think… because… .” • “Why do you think the debaters are working on… ?” What is the team trying to accomplish in this case?

Why? • Objectives: 1) present case ideas to class 2) evaluate case ideas 3) practice cx 4) the students will provide feedback on the outlines and cases to the other teams whose • case they read 5) the student will raise objections or arguments against the other case 6) work on the rough draft of the case • I can present my team’s case ideas to the class • I can observe and fill out the evaluation sheet • I can do Cross examination of the presenters • I can use the following time limits effectively: • 3 minutes to present and 2 minutes of CX • I can Hand in the evaluations • I can go to lab 122 and start a rough draft of our • case & do an outline • I can have the case due Friday

Thursday November 14thJC #3 What some things in the world or history that never change? • Objectives: 1) introduce the concept of the flow/notetaking 2) introduce the negative philosophy 3) read and discuss the neg position 4) explain how it is similar and different from the aff – venn diagram 5) explain what topicality is 6) begin collecting definitions for designing neg off case • I can read and take notes on the overview of what happens in a debate next slide on the “flow” • I can copy and explain the graphic representation of the neg position next slide • I can use the Emory Debate manual to understand the neg position that the neg does not have a case – no change no burden therefore no case • I can understand what T is through the lecture on the Introduction to T – Emory Debate manual • I can complete the T assignment in lab 502 – definitions of the words in the resolution contextual sources due Monday! • I can hand in as my Ticket out the door to the lab – a Venn diagram of aff and neg that can be done with my partner. What T is and its purpose • T establishes the boundaries - limits • T establishes the common language – meanings of the words • Context and clarity • Enhances precision of language • T is used to determine intent of the resolution • T sets up what the aff must do • T forces the sides to examine the issue – prevents “squirrel” cases

Friday November 15thJC #4 Comment on the quote on the image to the left… • Objectives:1) evaluate one’s own case with a different perspective 2) practice reading and timing my case 3) taking the opportunity to improve the case • I can be sure that I have printed copies of my team’s evidence cards • I can take the opportunity to improve our case in lab 502 • I can read my case and time it – over 5:00 minutes but under 7:00 minutes • I can be sure that our case is completed by Tuesday – with a copy for my partner and myself and a copy for Mr.Norton
Funsies • What are the strongest days of the week? • Saturday and Sunday.
