  19. European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) 2014-2020 • The proposed Regulation provides for an increased focus on sustainable urban development. • The increased focus is to be achieved through the earmarking of a minimum of 5% of ERDF resources for sustainable urban development, the establishment of an urban development platform to promote capacity building and exchange of experience, and the adoption of a list of cities where integrated actions for sustainable urban development will be implemented. • Within the framework of sustainable urban development, it is considered necessary to support integrated actions to tackle the economic, environmental, climate and social challenges affecting urban areas and to define a procedure to establish the list of cities covered by such actions and the financial allocation set aside for such actions. • In order to identify or test new solutions to issues relating to sustainable urban development which are of relevance at Union level, the ERDF should support innovative actions in the field of sustainable urban development.
