Hook #1- Research information about the author Hook: In 2012, just before his death, The New York Times called author Ray Bradbury; “the writer most responsible for bringing modern science fiction into the literary mainstream.” This meant that…
Hook #2- Hype up the author in your own words Hook: As a talented author with a number of infamous pieces, Ray Bradbury took advantage of his skill as a writer in order to achieve certain goals in his work.
In my thesis/claim on the next slide, notice how the techniques are in bold, along with the goals of the author. Whoever reads my essay will know what style of author’s craft I will be discussing, and what I think the goal of that author’s craft was.
Thesis/Claim: For example, to stir empathy for his characters, Bradbury often repeated the same ideas using descriptive language and sentence variety. This was the case in his short story, “All Summer In a Day”, where Bradbury used these techniques in order to show the reader how difficult it was for Margot to adapt to a new life on the planet Venus.
Topic Sentence • The repetition of the same idea is one way that Bradbury creates empathy for Margot. STORY TELLING “Margot stood apart from them” (1). STORY TELLING “”When the class sang songs about happiness and life and games her lips barely moved” (2).
Words of Wisdom: By constantly reminding the reader of Margot’s misery, we can learn that if we are not welcoming to a new student or person in our community, they can feel isolated or depressed. We should always do our best to be openhearted, in order to make people feel comfortable in their new surroundings.
