  3. Importance of this Study • Moving into a digital future • Needs of users are changing and how they access information • Need a clear vision based on consensus about the future direction • Want to know, document, and represent voices of all library types

Goals • Understanding of pressing issues, goals, and viewpoints of FDLP members of all library types • Documenting the needs, vision, and environment in which individual FDLP depositories exist and at the state level • Documenting the goals and initiatives of states and multi-state Federal Depository regions to determine how GPO can best complement these efforts

  5. FDLP Library Forecasts • Pilot-tested • 30 FDLP Members including Members of Council • Incorporated feedback and modified questionnaire accordingly • Further and deeper than biennial surveys, previous efforts

  6. FDLP State Forecasts • Areas: • Economic • Demographic • Collection Management • Preservation Issues • Education • Affiliations and Community Marketing • Opinion on the benefits of current LSCM projects • Future Roles

FDLP Forecasts and State Focused Action Plans • Meeting to discuss issues at the state level - Collaborate • Assessing and documenting state/multi-state Federal Depository Region level goals and initiatives for the next five years • Sharing your responses with GPO by June 30, 2012 • Your library’s FDLP Forecast • Your State’s FDLP State Forecast • Your State/multi-state Federal Depository Region level State Focused Action Plan

  10. GPO’s Next Steps • Quantitative and qualitative data analysis • GPO research and software specialists • Secondary research review • Comparative analysis of biennial responses, Needs Assessment • Targeted interviewing • Focused interviewing or focus groups • Issues identified in the data

How to Contribute • Individual Library/ State/ Multi-state Federal Depository Region • FDLP Library Forecast Questionnaire available electronically • State level meetings to produce an FDLP State Forecast for each state • State/multi-state Federal Depository Region level discussions to identify goals and initiatives

  12. When and Where • Now through June 30, 2012 • Virtual Forums hosted by GPO through April 2012

  13. Sharing what we learn • Plan to share preliminary findings throughout the process • Progress reports in the monthly FDLP Connection E-Newsletter • Preliminary quantitative findings to be shared with the community at the 2012 Fall Depository Library Conference

  14. Shaping the Future • A Direction for Change • Proof is in the numbers • Data supports change (specifics, charting a course) • Documenting your experience • Documenting the value of FDLP collections and services
