Safety Brief and New Member Orientation Firearm Safety • Four Universal Rules of Safe Firearm Handling • 1. Always keep your muzzle pointed in a safe direction • 2. Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot • 3. Always treat every gun as if it were loaded • 4. Always know your target and what’s beyond
Safety Brief and New Member Orientation Firearm Safety • Definitions • Accidental Discharge: The unintentional firing of a firearm due to a mechanical malfunction of the firearm (extremely rare) • Negligent Discharge: The unintentional firing of a firearm due to HUMAN ERROR (most common)
Safety Brief and New Member Orientation Firearm Safety • Negligent or Accidental Discharges and/or failure to follow the 4 universal rules of safe firearm handling can result in serious INJURY or DEATH • MCWCC members are responsible for their actions. Any caused negligence or damage to club property whether intentionalor accidental must appear before a MCWCC safety board and may have their club membership suspended or revoked. • Injury, death, or property damages due to negligent actions is subject to prosecution in criminal or civil court to recover damages in accordance with Moore County and/or North Carolina State law.
Safety Brief and New Member Orientation Firearm Safety • Anyone on the range can call a cease fire if an unsafe act or situation is about to occur • MCWCC expects that members and their guests are familiar with and safe with your firearm • If you are not familiar with the safety and handling procedures of your firearm then only shoot with someone who is proficient with it or the club recommends attending a professional training course with a qualified instructor
Safety Brief and New Member Orientation Firearm Handling Procedures on the Ranges • All firearms must be cased or bagged when moving them from a vehicle to a range • Removing firearms from a case or bag will only be done on the firing line when there is nobody beyond the firing line • You must communicate with others on the firing line to ensure it is safe to handle firearms • Do not touch, manipulate, adjust sights, repair, or reload/unload any firearm while someone is beyond the firing line

Safety Brief and New Member Orientation Firearm Handling Procedures on the Ranges • Do not move from range to range with a firearm in hand • Firearms must be cased, bagged, or holstered with chambers unloaded and magazine wells empty • Do not move beyond the firing line for any reason until the firing line has been declared “Safe” by all shooters on that firing line
Safety Brief and New Member Orientation Firearm Handling Procedures on the Ranges • Placing a gun on the firing line table Muzzle is oriented towards the targets, magazine is removed from the firearm, and the action or cylinder is open • Using a holster If shooting action pistol the magazine well is empty, de-cocked, and holstered The pistol is considered inert if it is in a holster and the shooter does not touch it

Safety Brief and New Member Orientation Firearm Safety • All club members are stewards of club property • If you see someone destroying property or committing an unsafe act on the ranges contact the board of directors through the website • If possible, use your cell phone to document the event with pictures or video and the offending member • Take note of time, description of offender, his vehicle, and license plate number
Safety Brief and New Member Orientation • Failure to follow safety or club rules can result in appearance before the MCWCC Safety Board which may result in a monetary fine for damages, additional training at the offender’s cost, and/or dismissal from the club
Range Orientation General Range Rules for the Rifle & Pistol Ranges • Dawn till dusk Monday thru Saturday and center fire after 1 pm on Sunday • Eye and ear protection is required at all times for all members and their guests (yes your kids too) • Always observe the 4 rules of safe gun handling • All shooting must take place from a common firing line • No gun handling while anyone is forward of the firing line • All rounds must impact the berm • Shotgun slugs only on pistol ranges • Designated paper targets only – do not bring your own steel • Clean up all targets and pick up brass when finished
Range Orientation 100 yard range Steel Plates • Eye protection is mandatory for everyone on the range when shooting club supplied • steel targets to include the shooter, their guests, and spectators. Do not engage steel until • everyone on the range is safe. • Caliber of .308 or below authorize to engage steel on rifle range. Do not engage steel • with armor piercing, incendiary, armor piercing, or rounds larger than .308 • Steel targets must be engaged no closer than 100 yards

Range Orientation Range Orientation Separate range brief and stamp on membership card required for the use of this range Eye protection is required for shooters, their guests and spectators at all times. Range Orientation General Range Rules for the Shotgun Range • Dawn till dusk Monday thru Saturday and center fire after 1 pm on Sunday • Eye and ear protection is required at all times for all members and their guests (yes your kids too) • Always observe the 4 rules of safe gun handling • All shooting must take place at designated firing points • Instruction for use of clay throwers are on the equipment • De-cock and cover clay throwers when finished • No shotgun slugs, no buckshot or birdshot larger than #8 • No steel targets • Clean up all spent shells when finished

Range Orientation General Range Rules for the Archery Range • Dawn till dusk Monday thru Sunday • Field/target points only, no broad head arrows on MCWCC target – archers may use broad head with personal targets • A maximum of four archers on the range at a time • All archery must take place at a common distance • All targets must be set between the zero distance and berm • Keep arrows pointed in a safe direction when on the line • Arrows must impact berm • Do not move forward of the archery line until the range has been declared clear • Clean up range when finished

Administrative Club Rules • Minors under the age of 18 must be supervised by a parent at all times and pets must be leashed • Use only approved paper targets • Center your target on the backer board to ensure you do not hit the vertical or horizontal supports • Replace backer boards as needed – if you have trouble hanging a target then its time to replace the backer board • Police your brass – don’t be that guy… • Sign in and out at the gate when arriving and leaving club • Max speed is 10 mph club wide • Parking at the ranges – nose or trunk in to all parking spaces • The gate – combo lock must be fed thru key lock • Paper targets are in target shed, you may purchase what you need
