  4. Maintaining Momentum • Evaluate the council’s efforts • Hold an annual renewal meeting of the council • Revitalize the council’s membership • Expand school health improvement efforts

Evaluate • Evaluation is an on-going component of the School Health Council. • The basic reasons for evaluation are • To check your progress toward your stated goals and actions • To determine whether your work is having a positive impact “It is only through evaluation that value exists.” –Friedrich Nietzsche

Evaluate • Process Evaluation: determines if the action plan is being carried out • How effectively is the council working together • How effectively is the council achieving its vision • Are activities be implemented as intended • Are there unintended consequences of the activities • How well are the activities accepted by all aspects of the community • What corrections need to be made now

Evaluate • Process Evaluation: How to measure it • Survey the members about their satisfaction with the council. • Review attendance at meetings • Compare meeting minutes with the activities stated in the actions plans • Survey the public about their perceptions of the council • Read media hits related to the council

Evaluate • Outcomes Evaluation: • Examines the changes that occur from the council’s efforts • Examines if the outcome achieved was the intended outcome of the action plan • The “Planning an Outcome Evaluation for a School Health Council” worksheet can help the council to plan an outcomes evaluation. • Review the worksheet and determine the best method for conducting an outcomes evaluation
