  2. loveLife loveLife is South Africa’s national HIV-prevention campaign for young people. We combine a sustained high-powered multimedia campaign with nationwide community-level outreach and support programmes to promote healthy, HIV-free living among South African teens.

  3. loveLife’s approach • Work with the innate optimism of young people. • Promote a holistic lifestyle approach. • HIV-free lifestyle. • Youth leadership. • Self motivation.

Partnerships: National • Active partnership with SRSA. • National loveLife Games training in March-April 2010. • Regular MINMEC participation. • SRSA Annual Conference. • Numerous attempts to build closer relationships with sports federations. • DBE, DSD, DOH are also key partners. • Comprehensive approach to HIV-prevention by the social cluster.

Objectives The loveLife Games targets in and out-of-school youth between the ages 12 and 19: TRAINING: loveLife trains ‘adult allies’ to initiate and sustain ongoing positive lifestyle activity in schools and communities. ONGOING ACTIVITY: Local leagues and community events are the strategy for achieving sustained activity. EVENTS: loveLife Games events serve as best practice HIV-prevention models for the community and the country.

Training • Four main roles: • National and Provincial Trainings are “Train the Trainer” events. • All trainees are expected to serve on loveLife Games LOCs. • All trainees are expected to drive local activities and events on the Body Ys model. • lovingLife Motivational Programme implementation.

  13. 1. Training Total trained = 1097 people Target = 23 Regions Trained (100% reached) Attendance being audited by R,M&E dept.

Ongoing Activity • 18 Y-Centres (3 in EC; 2 in FS; 1 in GP; 3 in KZN; 2 in LP; 2 in MP; 1 in NC; 2 in NW; 2 in WC) • Purpose of Y-Centres: • Safe environment for young people • Life-skills and hard skills (Cyber Ys). • Motivation • Debate • Sports: Volleyball, Basketball, Netball, Soccer, Ultimate Frisbee, Cricket piloted in GP. • Healthy Sexuality; lovingLife; Make Your Move!
