  12. Never give your credit or social security information to incoming callers. Use caller id to screen unannounced callers.

  13. On the Net • Check to make sure that a business is legitimate before you buy from them. • You can call to place orders until you feel comfortable with the level of service. • Shopping services have not vetted their sellers for you.

  14. If you have problems with a purchase • Pay with a credit card if you buy on the Net • Check sites that combine gripes. • Complain to the company as soon as possible. • Keep records of contacts

  21. Security on one system • Turn it off when you are not using it. • Backup early and often. • Don’t let other people download programs or install programs on your machine. • Use passwords for sensitive information like turbotax, even at home. • Do not open e-mail from people you don’t know.
