Review Preview • Find the x and y intercepts of the following functions:
Constant Function • where b = any real number • Domain: all real numbers • Range: set consisting of a single number • The function is an even function whose graph is a horizontal line
Linear Function • Domain: all real numbers • Range: all real numbers • Its graph is a line whose slope is 1 and y-intercept is 0. • The line consists of all points for which the x-coordinate equals the y-coordinate • It is an odd function that increases over its domain
Quadratic Function • Domain: all real numbers • Range: the set of nonnegative real numbers • Graph is a parabola whose intercept is at (0,0) • It is an even function that is decreasing on the interval and increasing on the interval
Cubic Function • Domain: all real numbers • Range: all real numbers • It is an odd function that is increasing on the interval
Square Root Function • Domain: all nonnegative real numbers • Range: all nonnegative real numbers • The intercept is at (0, 0) • It is neither odd or even and is increasing on the interval
Cube Root Function • Domain: all real numbers • Range: all real numbers • The intercept is at (0, 0) • It is an odd function that is increasing on the interval
Rational Function • Domain: all real number; except • Range: all real number; except • The graph has no intercepts • It is an odd function and is decreasing on the intervals and
Absolute Value Function • Domain: all real numbers • Range: all real numbers greater than or equal to zero • It’s intercept is at (0, 0) • It is an even function, decreases on the interval and increases on the interval
Greatest Integer Function • Domain: all real numbers • Range: the set of integers used • Its is discontinuous - it has gaps or holes(meaning it cannot be drawn without lifting the pencil)
