Analysis PC Provide an analysis tool for point data. Easy to perform QA/QC on point data
Step One – Retrieving Pedon Data from NASIS The training materials contain a txt file for use in this exercise. The following is for future use.
Load pedon data into NASIS selected set Load pedon, site and transect
Run the AnalysisPC report to export Pedon data from NASIS • Selected Set includes: • Pedons, Sites and Transects • Run “AnalysisPC” report under Pangaea
Analysis PC and Users guide AnalysisPC and associated files are found on the NASIS downloads site – however in this exercise all files are provided
Training materials The analysis.zip contains a populated AnalysisPC database, personal geodatabase and all associated files necessary to learn how to use these tools. Unzip this into a c:\analysis folder. Use this dataset with this presentation.
Files with Analysis PC Analysis_pc_2.1.mdb (Apc access file) Arcmap_link.mdb (Apc to arclink file) Templatedb.mdb (SSURGO 02template) ssl_MO?.mdb (NSSL database) Analysis_PC.tbx (Arc toolbox) ?.txt (NASIS pedon text file)
Initial Directory Setup • Create C:\analysis folder • Unzip the analysis file into folder • Read the users guide and/or use the job aid on setup of Analysis PC http://soils.usda.gov/education/training/job_aids.html#correlation
Step Two – Using AnalysisPC The following steps will use the training materials supplied in the analysis.zip file.
Locate the Access file • Open AnalysisPC by navigating to the c:\analysis directory • Open the “analysis_pc.mdb” file
AnalysisPC Home Screen Setup Menu
Locate the NASIS download Browse to find the “*.txt” file Import the txt file
Preloaded Queries Run some of the available queries and review their results Use filtering, sorting and hiding of columns
Sand, Silt And Clay Analysis form can be modified by using the “hide columns”, moving columns, filtering data, and sorting columns
Pedon Analysis Only 1 TP and that should be the OSD 7 pedons described as the typical pedon for “Clifford”
Pedon Analysis Filtering and sorting can be used to narrow the review of data to include only those pedons with locations, with a correlated name and are Full Pedon Descriptions
Filtering data Left click on the down arrow and left click select all and left click box for “Clifford”
Filtering data Dataset contains only “Clifford” records
Filtering data Removes blank rows
Filtering data All the null rows have been removed The data still exists it just not in the filtered set
Filtering data “Text filter” Allows use of wildcards to select all the Bt horizons
Filtering data All the Clifford Bt horizons were selected
Filtering data “Clear filter from hzname” removes all filters. The original dataset from the query is returned.
Sending AnalysisPC data to Excel Send data to Excel deciding between the entire selected set or the filtered selected set
Save Filtered Data Run the query and filter the data as needed Click on Save filtered/Sorted Set
Filtering data Name your file after the underscore Save Filtered/Sorted Set allows the sorted set to be exported to the database as a table
Filtering data Filtered table is saved for import/export to the statistics form, texture plot or Arc export
Running Statistics Click “Load Table” to load a filtered dataset
Results Table columns can be moved or hidden – statistics are only as good as the selected set Choose fields for statistics You can send your data to excel
Plotting Texture Select Plot Points from User Defined Table
Plotting Texture Click “Load Table” to load a filtered dataset
Plotting Texture Use choice lists to identify the fields
Plotting in AnalysisPC Click plot and review data
Creating a Query • Customized queries can be written for AnalysisPC. The first step is to open the Queries object and find a query similar to your needs. Copy, paste and rename the query.
Creating a Query Open and modify the query. Then save the query following the naming nomenclature.
Adding the Query Insert a suitable sequence number, the choice list label, query name and a description so you remember what results your query will return.
Check the Query Choice List The new query appears on the choice list.
Sharing a query Open query and change to SQL View
Copy SQL In the “SQL” window, highlight and copy the query
Paste into email Paste the query into an email send. The recipient can then copy the query and paste into their AnalysisPC
