  3. People in Russia have their own special traditions. One ofthem is Maslenitsa — the holiday, which lasts for a week, tosay "goodbye" to winter. People celebrate it at the end, ofFebruary or at the beginning of March. During this holidaythey celebrate the end of winter and the beginning of spring.In old times people usually cooked pancakes, had fires, burntstrawscarecrows of winter, they sang songs and danced.

  4. Now during "Maslenitsa week" people always cook pancakes. Pancake is a symbol of sun. It is as round, gold and warm as the sun. Pancakes are served hot with sour cream, fish, caviar or butter sugar, honey.

  5. The last day of Maslenitsa is called Forgiveness Day. People ask one another for forgiveness, invite their friends, their nearest and dearest to see each other. Maslenitsa is over. Winter gives way to spring. Though different countries have different traditions and holidays people all over the world know some of them. They are – Easter, Christmas and New Year.
