  2. Mitosis Asexual Body cells (occurs in all organisms) Prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase. Involves duplication of chromosomes. Results in two daughter cells-identical to parent cells! New cells have normal number of chromosomes (2N-diploidNo pairing of homologs. New cells fully functional. Meiosis Sexual Gametes (animals and plants) Prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase…twice! Results in four daughter cells-not identical to parent cells! Crossing over occurs…recombinant chromosomes. New cells w/ ½ normal number of chromosomes (N-haploid). )…reduction division New cells need to combine with another gamete before they’re fully functional.
