Change & Transition • The difference between these is subtle but important. Change is something that happens to people, even if they don't agree with it. • Transition, on the other hand, is internal: it's what happens in people's minds as they go through change. Change can happen very quickly, while transition usually occurs more slowly. GRP COG-YOT- 24/06/2017
Biblical example of change & transition • His birth (Ex. 2:1-10) • Adopted by Pharaoh's daughter (Ex. 2:16) • Great mistakes & great choices (Ex. 2;11-12; Heb. 11:24-27) • Wilderness training (Ex. 2:16-25) • His call to serve God (Ex.3:1-22) • Moses ‘slow of speech’ argument with God (EX. 4:1-7) • His return to Egypt (Ex. 4: 18-31) • God sends him to Pharaoh (Ex. 5: 1; until chap. -12.30) • Red Sea miracle (Ex. 13: 17) • The water of Meribah transgression • Asked God for a successor GRP COG-YOT- 24/06/2017

What can we learn from their experiences? Group Exercise You are never to old to make bad mistakes (struggled with anger, even though he was an educated man (Acts 7:22) • Ex. 32: 19 when he came down from Mt Sinai & broke the tablets. • Struck the rock at Meribah. If God is leading, the work will go on (Num. 27:12, 17 & 18). The heart of Moses laid open (Num. 27: 16-18 – chosen by God & and had a shepherds heart: God already had Joshua ready to transition. Our human desires will see us replacing longstanding leaders with someone very much like us When God removes, he replaces: Moses support God’s choice both publicly & privately (Duet 31:7-8, Moses privately strengthens his successor) Num. 27:22 “so Moses did as the Lord commanded” & took Joshua before Eleazer the priest & the congregation & inaugurated him, just as the Lord commanded) There will come a time when its time to go (Deut.34:7 120 yrs. old, his eye was not dim, nor his vigour abated – the only man in the Bible that God personally buried) GRP COG-YOT- 24/06/2017
The characteristics of the servant leader; Moses & Joshua • A Godly leader is marked by a servant attitude, transparent integrity, godly character, and faithful biblical teacher • Paul often referred to himself as a bond-servant of Jesus Christ (Rom. 1:1; Gal. 1:10; Col. 1:7; 4:7; Titus 1:1). • As Paul said (Gal. 1:10), “For am I now seeking the favour of men, or of God? Or am I striving to please men? (men pleasers cannot speak the truth) • “to lead effectively you must be out ahead of your people in Bible study and prayer “to lead effectively you must be out ahead of your people in Bible study and prayer GRP COG-YOT- 24/06/2017
