TRB Technical Activities Council 2011 Strategic Initiative: Research TAC and Committee on Research to give Standing Committees knowledge and Tools to: Identify research needs Increase probability research will be conducted Disseminate information on ongoing and completed research Each Committee expected to: Develop and maintain set of Research Needs Statements (RNSs) Use TRB RNS database Educate research proposers on deadlines and requirements Monitor research progress of sponsored projects Promote availability of completed research Appoint a Committee Research Coordinator

TRB Technical Activities Council 2011 Strategic Initiative: Other • “Giving Young Members a Voice” • TAC approved new Young Members council • To develop 3 Annual Meeting Sessions • Develop other tools to promote understanding of TRB • Transportation Research Record (TRR) review • Look at quality, publication costs, efficiency opportunities • TRB staff to solicit input

Annual Meetings: 2011 and 2012 • 2011 • Largest to date • High usage of “TRB Annual Meeting Online” • Compendium of Papers – Download or DVD • 2012 • Spotlight Theme: “Transportation: Putting innovation and People to Work” • NO conference calls or internet for Committee meetings • Options for more accesible content: apps, e-readers, etc.

General TRB News • Annual Meeting set records for attendance, exhibitors, patrons, and advertising • Paper submittals and website visits at record levels • Webinar program reached nearly 10,000 participants in 2010, • TRB Core Program budget sound – for now • Cooperative Research Program – funding uncertainties • Strategic Highway Research Program 2 • 3 “Themes”: Renewal, Reliability, Capacity • Focus on research implementation
