I. What and Where? (verses 1-6) • What You Were • Dead – disobedient to God • Obedient to the devil • Subject to God’s anger • All of us used to live that way – following passionate desires and inclinations of the sinful nature
Where You Were • Living in sin • In the kingdom of darkness • Colossians 1:13 - 14 13For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, 14who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins. • Dominion of darkness
Devil – commander of the powers of the unseen world (prince of the power of the air) • 2 Corinthians 4:3 - 4 3If the Good News we preach is hidden behind a veil, it is hidden only from people who are perishing. 4Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.

Acts 19:13 - 16 13A group of Jews was traveling from town to town casting out evil spirits. They tried to use the name of the Lord Jesus in their incantation, saying, “I command you in the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches, to come out!” 14Seven sons of Sceva, a leading priest, were doing this. 15But one time when they tried it, the evil spirit replied, “I know Jesus, and I know Paul, but who are you?” 16Then the man with the evil spirit leaped on them, overpowered them, and attacked them with such violence that they fled from the house, naked and battered.
