Psychological health Psychological health and well-being basically has to do with the question: "how are you doing?”. Psychological health concerns itself with how you are doing in response, and whether you find life to be interesting and enjoyable. Life is better when we are feeling better, but we should not forget that there will be ups and downs and we have to face it (Mattiuzzi 2008).
Psychological Health Includes Mental Health : It refers to overall psychological well-being. It includes the way how we feel about our self, the quality of our relationships, and our ability to manage our feelings and deal with difficulties (Smith 2013). Emotional Health : Emotional health and wellbeing is the experience of healthy self-esteem, self-respect and resilience (Smith 2013). Spiritual Health : Learn to love. Social health : People are able to coexist peacefully in communities with opportunities for progression.
To Improve Psychological Health Psychotherapy Psychotherapy helps people with a mental or emotional disorder. It helps to understand and identify the life problems or events like a major illness, a death in the family, a loss of a job, or a divorce -- that contribute to their illness and help them recognize which aspects of those problems they may be able to solve or improve (Katz 2012).
Different Approaches to Therapy Psychodynamic Therapy : it is based on the statement that a person is having emotional problems. Interpersonal Therapy : The primary goal of this therapy is to improve communication skills and increase self-esteem during a short period of time. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy: The therapist helps the patient establish new ways of thinking by directing attention to both the "wrong" and "right" assumptions they make about themselves and others (Katz 2012).
Outcomes of Psychological Health Reduced Stress, Anxiety, strain, Turnover intension. Improved physical health, psychological health, emotional stability, adjustment, goal setting behavior, coping, attitudes towards learning. Increased creativity, motivation, performance, occupation success, commitment, satisfaction and morale.
Physiological health • Examples of steps to improve one's health: • Physical fitness • Weight loss • A healthy diet • Stress management training • Stopping smoking and other substance abuse (Good health 2012). "health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity".
Improve Physical Health • Get Enough Rest : It is important to have good emotional and mental health. That includes getting enough sleep. • Eat Good nutrition : more you learn about what you eat and how it affects your energy and mood, the better you can feel. • Physical Exercise : Exercise is a powerful antidote to stress, anxiety, and depression. • Get a dose of sunlight every day. Sunlight lifts your mood, so try to get at least 10 to 15 minutes of sun per day. • Limit Alcohol and avoid cigarette : it may unnaturally make you feel good in the short term, but it causes preventable illness and death ( Smith 2013) .
Herbal Supplement In our community, lot of people are facing with over weight so they try to use Herbal Dietary Supplement instead of doing physical workout which is not safe for their health. As people get older, they tend to have many conditions, such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes, and are typically taking more medications, which increase the risk of interactions with herbs and supplements (Catherine, 2012)
CAM Treatment Therapies • Alternative medical: include homeopathy, naturopathy, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and Ayurveda. • Biological medicine: use of substances found in nature, such as herbs, foods, and vitamins to promote health. • Energy medicine: involves the use of energy fields to promote health For example, Therapeutic Touch. • Manual medicine: include osteopathy, physical therapy, massage, chiropractic. • Mind/body medicine: include deep relaxation, hypnotherapy, meditation, and yoga ( NCCAM 2011).
Integrated Approach Integrative Medicine program encourages us to attend to eight elements: nutrition, environment, breath, spirituality, movement, rest and recreation, love and relationships and consciousness. By being mindful of how we live our lives, we can make healthy choices.
