Big trading cities often had a large population • Poor Romans in cities lived in crowded and not so nice houses • Lots of entertainment in the cities: Chariot races, bath houses, gladiator fights, monuments and temples • More people lived in the country than in the cities • Rural areas: people farmed • Large farms and Villas (county homes for rich Romans) scattered • Vacation home where they lived it up and had slaves and big parties Cities
